Good Works

Where Will They Get You?

I have heard many people when asked how they were saved would respond saying, "I have always lived good and did my best to help others." Is that how you think? If asked you how you were saved would you answer like this? Does saying that make you feel fit for heaven? This is what God says about your thoughts and salvation.

And if by grace, then is it no more of

works: otherwise grace is no more grace.

But if it be of works, then is it no more grace:...

Romans 11:6

Perhaps you are wondering, "What does that verse mean?" Let me give you a little illustration. Have you ever head the expression. "An apple a day keeps the doctor away"? Maybe you do eat an apple a day and yes they are good for you but as you know you still have to see a doctor because you still get sick. Well let us change that saying a little: "A good work a day will keep hell away." Think about it dear friend it’s like the apple. A good work may make you feel good but that is it you will still land in hell if you do not trust the Lord as your own and personal Saviour. God tells you this in his word:

For by grace are ye saved through fait;

and that not of yourselves: it is the gift

of God: Not of works, lest any man should

boast. (Ephesians 2:8,9)

Maybe you look at these verses and say: "That is not what that really means." take a moment and read the verse again, study each sentence. It can not mean anything else.

It is very good for you to help someone or do a good deed. But let me warn you because your soul is very important and God loves you. But a good work does not take you a step closer to heaven, but if you are not saved you are just taking one more step closer to hell.

...all our righteous nesses are as filthy rags;...

Isaiah 64:6

Listen to this next verse that the Lord preached when he was on earth:

And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom

of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the Gospel.

Mark 1:15

No where in that verse does it say live a good life and do good to others. I am not telling you to not do good but my friend I am telling you good works will not get you to heaven.

Listen to the golden verse of the bible:

For God so loved the world, that he gave

his only begotten Son, that whosoever

believeth in him should not perish, but

have everlasting life.

John 3:16

There is the word believe again. Perhaps you are saying. "Well I do believe that the Lord died for our sins." Did you repent and believe the Gospel?

...I bring you good tidings of great joy,

which shall be unto all people. For unto

you is born this day in the city of David

a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Luke 2:10,11

Will you accept the only way to be saved?

And the times of this ignorance God

winked at; but now commandeth all men

every where to repent: Because he hath

appointed a day, in which he will judge the

world... Acts 17:30,31

Make no mistakes repent of your sins and accept Christ as your Saviour the only way to heaven.

Come unto Me, all ye that labour

and are heavy laden, and I will

give you rest.

Matthew 11:28

The hymn writer can pen the following lines knowing that only one thing can help him through.

No other work save Thine,

No meaner blood will do;

No strength save that which is divine

Can bear me safely through.

Thy work alone, my Saviour,

Can ease this weight of sin,

Thy blood alone, O Lamb of God,

Can give me peace within.
