Satan Versus God -- Who Causes Sickness?

 

 

 

Who has the power to cause sickness?
   

It has been brought to my attention that people believe that God does not cause sickness but it is completely afflicted by Satan. When asked if God can give sickness the answer is no. I have studied this situation carefully with prayer and studying of God’s word and I would like to share you what I have found in my study of the word of God.

The first situation I’d like to bring to your attention is a well known character of the bible by the name of Job.

 

And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. Job 2:1

 

We can see here where this is the second time that satan comes to God. The first time Satan comes and asks God to take away his possesions and if he did then Job would blaspheme God. The next time as you see in the above verse satan asks this question:

But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown. Job 2: 5-7

we can see how Satan is telling God to strike Job with sickness then he will curse him. So GOD gives satan permission to strike Job with sickness. God is the all powerful all knowing God and there is nothing Satan does that He does not allow or know about. We can see in 1Chronicles 21:1 "And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel." But we must also notice 2Samuel 24:1 " And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah." These two verses are a very good example in what I am trying to explain. Satan moved the people as it does say in 1Chronicles but it took God to move him. Satan can do nothing without God knowing and watching. It is blasphemy to say otherwise. It is saying that God is not all powerful and all knowing. "One God and Father of all, who is above all..." Ephesians 4:6

One thing that Satan can not do is take and give live. We can see in Genesis 2:7 where it says: "...God formed man...and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." I believe we’ll agree that witchcraft is of the satan right? We can read in Exodus chapter 8:17 when Aaron was commanded to stretch forth his rod and strick the dust lice came forth which was life. What happened when the magicians tried?

And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast. Job 8:18

As we can see God is the only one that can give life and He is the only one that can take away as in Job 9:12 "Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?"

We must not forget that as we are told in 2Corinthians chapter 4 that satan is the god of this world and causes evil. But we must not forget that God allows him to do what he does and God allows sickness and trials to arise. But the evil satan does will be judged someday. Let us live for our Saviour, let us also remember God chastises the ones he loves when they do wrong. But let us not forget God is all powerful.

Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Matthew 4:10
